1. Don't bother turning the power off from the fuse box. Real men live on the wild side. Real men gamble fingers, knuckles and wrists. Just don't be stupid and flip the switch while your hand is rooting around in the garbage disposal. If you find said hand in the garbage disposal after flipping the switch, call 911 and put the mangled hand on ice.
2. Fish out the plastic pieces that your wife naively left in the garbage disposal to which she thought, "Dish soap in the dishwasher was a GREAT idea... I never thought I'd top that!"
3. Take your handy-dandy vacuum hose and suck out any remnants of little red plastic cup pieces.
4. Find your drill and install a hexagon drill bit. Underneath the disposal will be a perfect little spot where you can use the drill to manually turn the blades on the inside of the disposal. Run it a few times to clear away any leftover debris.
5. Grunt. If your garbage disposal sounds similar to your machismo grunting, chances are, the disposal will do its job. Try eating an apple and drop the core in as a test run. That's what I did. Like partners in an action movie, I started the job... Mr. Disposal finished it.
There is no reason you should have to hire out to fix simple things around OUR homes. Let us be men, roll up our sleeps (if you're wearing a t-shirt... roll them up anyway... your wife should dig your farmer's tan), and take matters into our own hands.
