Welcome everyone to our new blog... not that there's an old blog.
Let's just pretend that everyone reading this already knows who we are and all that good stuff, because if you don't, it's kinda weird that you're reading this. So...

Today, April 30, 2011, Geoff ran his first marathon here in Nashville!
We decided to get a hotel room so that we didn't have to get up even earlier to drive to Nashville in the morning. We went to the expo and looked around and got Geoff all checked in.
3 am came VERY early. We got ready and checked out at 3:45, and headed to the parking lot.
Runners parking was free, so Cara and I camped out in the van.
I pretended to sleep, but felt weird with everyone walking by. Cara woke up at about 6:30 and she and i watched Beauty and the Beast in the van until about 7:15 when the music started up and the dj started talking.
So, i changed Cara out of her jammies, loaded her up in the stroller and we went to claim our patch of sidewalk near the finish line. I let Cara out, she spun in circles on the sidewalk, found little rocks and picked them up and handed them to a nice older woman near us. Then more people started to show up, and in the stroller she went for the next three hours. She whined and cried for a looong time and finally she gave up and passed out.
It was kind of neat being a first-time spectator for a marathon & 1/2. The first guy finished the half marathon at an hour and four? minutes. I think that's totally insane.... but gotta give the guy lots of credit. It was a cool experience watching different people's reactions as they crossed the finish line. I saw superman, wonderwoman, lots of people wearing wigs--including a mullet, tutus and other miscellaneous costumes/outfits. One guy rolled across the finish line. Superman was carried across in a flying position by his friends. One guy got a piggy back ride from a friend. A few others jumped to touch the banner at the top of the finish line. Kinda motivational.... One of the first few to finish the full marathon. He made me laugh. He crossed the finish line and yelled "WHOOOO! YEAH! WHOOOOOOOOO!" and claped his hands and fist pumped at the air.
It was kinda sad to watch the people cross the finish line, stop, turn white and watch the medics run toward them, but it was cool to see that they were at least able to finish. A few obviously had cramps really bad, but were able to cross with a little help. Unfortunately, there was a gurney brought out and i didn't see it come back, but i think that happens in every race.
Anyway, the other people around me started looking for their runners. We all kind of grouped together and said "white shirt, black shorts!" "...no, that's not him" "Female, all black, sleeveless shirt!" "no..." "Lime green shorts, white shirt" "ROBERT! Way to go white shirt, black shorts!" And everyone would leave one by one as their runners were found. Geoff looked glad to be finished. But he found us right away! Next time, i think i'm going to bring a banner/sign? And i think it would be fun to have other friends cheering each other on. Friends in the crowd to scream geoff's name and get his attention, but also kill time with me. Cara was very un-entertained. Poor girl. She finally gave up and took a nap toward the end, but someone bumped her stroller pretty good, or yelled too loud and woke her up. It wasn't too bad though, we only had about 15-30 minutes before geoff came around.
It took a while for Geoff to make it back to the van, but he did and it was a LONG drive home. We were both super tired and i drove because he won with his running 26.2 miles and all.
He's got a few battle wounds, but nothing too crazy. His heel was bloody...

So Geoff Ran his first marathon-- 26.2 Miles in 4:03:00! Good for him, I'm proud of him. There's no way i would ever run that far, let alone be happy about it. :)
So, after we got home, we went to Subway because we were all starving and Geoff didn't want anything greasy, so that's what we decided to do. It was SO painfully SLOOOW! I really think the girl must have been BRAND new, because i wanted to hop the counter and do it all for her. It was crazy.

So, Not only was today a big day because Geoff ran a marathon, which i guess is a pretty big deal, BUT! Cara went potty in her potty chair for the first time ever! THAT, my friends, is a big deal!

Also today, we had a cottage meeting for church planned. New members and investigators were invited to our house to eat ice cream and talk about the church, discuss questions they have or whatever. Well, because i'm related to my mother, only the missionaries showed up... And the Elders were late. :) Oh well. We still had a good evening with the missionaries.

Now that they're all home and i've blogged for the first time, i'm EXHAUSTED, and i'm going to head to bed!
Goodnight everybody!
Goodnight everybody!
